Annika, So Brave
by Dr. Robert Goldsby, Annika's Attending Oncologist
They told me I was sick when I was just two
Inside me was a cancer that grew and grew.
I fought to reach the age of four
I wanted more
My life was too short, it just flew.
So Brave, So Brave
Just a kid, now with cancer
Really an angel and butterfly dancer.
You will not feel me fear
For I know that you're near.
Love for us all is the answer.
So Brave, So Brave
Procedures, pokes and chemotherapy
Loss of hair and radiation therapy
Surgeries one, two, three, four
Each time they take a little more.
That's really not fair to me.
So Brave, So Brave
Vincristine, actinomycin, cyclophosphamide
VP-16, adriamycin and ifosfamide.
Strange medicines that attack
On IV pole, Frank, that keeps track
I can get through this, with you at my side.
So Brave, So Brave
My home away from home is 7 long
New friends are family to which I belong
I make tents in my room and watch TV
Visit the playroom, laughing with glee
Hear me fight and live life as if I were strong
So Brave, So Brave
Pain, pain, go away.
The beast is back again today.
Mom, Dad and Katrina at my side
Giving the love I need for the ride
I am ready to say God bless and good-bye.
So Brave, So Brave
Take me home, up in the sky
Now a real angel I can fly.
Dancing in heaven no need to cry
Shining in heaven no need to sigh
Wings make me free to dance like a butterfly.
So Brave, So Brave
